THANKFUL THURSDAY: 31 BITS

"She is clothed with strength & dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future" -- Proverbs 31:25

That is one of my favorite verses because I think it's a beautiful description of how our lives are meant to be lived.

In developing countries, there are millions of men and women around the world who don't have the freedoms we have in the Western world. But they clothe themselves with strength and dignity to live out the lives they were meant to live.

For the past few decades, people in Uganda have been living in utter despair. The Lord's Resistance Army, led by Joseph Kony, has caused this horrendous reality. They have tortured people, set villages on fire, and abducted thousands of children forced to be his soldiers, become wives and slaves. Because of this, 2 million people from Northern Uganda have been displaced from their homes and were placed in refuge camps.

In recent years, many have been able to return to their villages. But most find little hope for a promising future due to the lack of resources, access to education and work.

This is where 31 Bits steps in and has done a beautiful job with their sustainable model.

While many organizations do a great job of providing people in developing countries with sustainable jobs, 31 Bits goes above and beyond. Not only do they teach the women how to create jewelry and educate them with financial and business skills, they also address all other aspects of her life. They provide counseling, HIV testing and treatment, and health/psychosocial education.

More importantly, they share the love of Christ with each woman and her family. Because there's only one truly sustainable truth: that Jesus loves us and desires for us to hold on to His outstretched hand. He wants us to depend on Him for freedom, security & hope.

I admire the women who have overcome adversity through 31 Bits. By putting on their armors of strength and dignity, they are able to send their children to school and make a lasting impact on their own communities. They truly live lives without fear of the future despite their situations. They choose to turn their eyes to the Lord and rest in His truth. Inspiring!!

The beautiful jewelry these women create is (believe it or not) all made out of recycled paper! There's also a cute new "Bitsies" collection for the little ones! The colorful pieces are simple to style and add a special touch to any outfit. Plus, they're a great conversation starter!

Will you consider supporting these families and join me in giving them the freedom to live with strength and dignity?

  14. Ahh I just found your blog via a link up and I am so glad I did!! Just started following you! This is SUCH A GREAT POST.

I love the whole outfit (how cute are you!?) but more importantly, I love that you are spreading the word about great causes and organizations. Uganda is extremely close to my heart - I actually worked for Invisible Children who also worked to employ women in Gulu Uganda (as well as stop Joseph Kony, get kids in school etc).

So excited to start following along with you <3
